Program Overview

This theory and clinical course promotes an understanding of diverse cultures by looking at cultures and healthcare systems within a host country outside of the United States. Students are exposed to health issues, needs, services, and systems within the host country. They will have opportunities to prepare and present health education, provide health care, and share in the history and epidemiology of the identified host country.

Two faculty members will accompany students to Costa Rica, where they will participate in a service learning program providing direct service to the community in health care facilities and clinics.

Course Information

Students are required to have completed at least the first semester Nursing courses by January.
Accommodations and Meals

Students will live with a host family. Host families will provide breakfast and dinners and sack lunches as needed.

As part of the program cost, students will participate in a number of excursions and cultural activities. Cultural activities may include horseback riding with mountain medicine practitioner, Kivu Animal Hosptial, Doka Coffee Plantation, LaPaz waterfall, or other professional talks.
