Program Description:

Night MarketProgram dates:  Program runs over spring break. Program will not run in 2020, but is expected to run again in 2021.

Program Overview

The group of Madison College Dental Hygiene students will travel to Costa Rica to provide dental hygiene care and education to children and adults in a variety of settings. Students will also go to classrooms to provide interactive dental health education.


Students from other institutions are welcome to apply, although preference will be given to Madison College students.

Course Information 

This Study Abroad opportunity is currently a service-learning program, with no associated course credit. Program travel to Costa Rica will occur over spring break.

During the travel experience, students will be responsible for participating in a group discussion of the experience with other participants.

Accommodation and Meals

Students will live with host families while abroad. Breakfast and dinner is included with the housing. Lunch will be provided on some days. Other meals will be paid for by students.


ExcursionsOcean

As part of the program cost, students will experience a number of excursions and cultural activities. Additional excursions may be possible for an additional fee.
Possible excursions may include:

  • Coffee Plantation
  • Coastal Visit


Additional Information

A passport is required for U.S. citizens traveling to Costa Rica. If you need to apply for a passport, it is advised to allow at least 6 weeks for standard processing.

All students are required to attend a pre-departure orientation. This orientation provides information on health and safety, packing, trip planning, flight logistics, and other essential information.

Program fee includes:                 

  • Lodging for the duration of the program
  • Breakfasts, dinners, and some lunches
  • Excursions

 
Additional costs include:    

  • Some meals in Costa Rica
  • Round trip airfare to Costa Rica and transportation to/ from the airport.
  • Incidental/recreational food and drink.
  • Personal expenses: laundry, entertainment, souvenirs, etc.
  • Passport (if you do not yet have one)
