Program Overview

Oakton Community College has established a study abroad program at the English and Foreign Language University (EFLU) in Hyderabad, India. As a member college of ICISP, Oakton has opened this opportunity up to all students at other ICISP member colleges. This program enables Oakton and other ICISP member college students, accompanied by an Oakton faculty member, to study for one month at EFLU in Hyderabad, India. Students will be able to interact on campus with Indian students and other international students from all over the world.

Course Information

Students will take two courses (6 credits) on Indian life, culture, and history while in India, both taught in English. Specific course offerings will change slightly each year. Students will have the opportunity to choose to take one class in an Indian language, if they wish. Credit will be granted by Oakton Community College.

Accommodations and Meals

Students will live in the international student dormitory at EFLU. Rooms are double occupancy, with two rooms sharing an adjacent bathroom, and are air-conditioned. All meals are provided by EFLU, or are covered for students when they are on a field trip. All costs for meals off campus that are not a part of an organized field trip are the responsibility of the student.

As part of the program cost, students will participate in a number of excursions and cultural activities. Some excursions may be available at an additional cost.

Additional Information

A passport is required for U.S. citizens traveling to India. If you need to apply for a passport, it is advised to allow at least 6 weeks for standard processing. A passport is needed at the time of application so that the program coordinator can arrange to obtain visas for all students on the program. Visa fees are included in the program fee.

All students are required to attend three pre-departure orientations. These orientations provide information on health and safety, packing and trip planning, flight logistics, and other essential information. One orientation will take place in Illinois about 6-8 weeks in advance of the program, on a Saturday. The other two sessions will occur at Madison College.

Students are accompanied by a visiting U.S. faculty member who provides oversight for the program and assistance to students as needed.
