Program Overview

The Center for International Education (CIE) supports students planning independent internships abroad. Students that have secured an internship abroad are required to work with CIE in preparation for their time abroad.

Course Information

Students will arrange their own independent internship with an employer abroad. The students will negotiate all details related to the internship with the employer.

Students will work with Madison College faculty in their degree area to coordinate necessary coursework to receive credit when they return.

Accommodations and Meals

Students should work with the employer abroad to determine the types of accommodations and meals available.

Additional Information

A passport is required for U.S. citizens traveling outside of the country. If you need to apply for a passport, it is advised to allow at least 6 weeks for standard processing. A visa may be necessary, depending on the host country location. Students should work with the employer to obtain the appropriate visa, if necessary.

All students are required to attend a pre-departure orientation. The orientation provides information on health and safety, packing and trip planning, flight logistics, and other essential information.

Cost

The program cost will vary depending on location and length of the internship. Please contact CIE directly for additional cost information. All students will be required to purchase health insurance for the time abroad through Madison College. If the program cost is less than the $500 deposit, students should then pay the full amount of the program when applying.

To Apply

Interested students are required to complete an application by the deadline date. All materials, including the initial deposit of $500 (made payable to Madison College), must be received by 4:00 p.m. in the Center for International Education. (NOTE: unless an applicant is rejected, the $500 deposit is non-refundable). If the program fee is less than $500, students should pay the full program fee at the time of the application. Please contact us for more information.
